PENYA: ΙΣΤΟΡΙΑ - HISTORIA

The Joventut Badalona is a really special club, whose evolution and growth in the social and sports arenas is difficult to understand, unless one has a profound knowledge of its roots, its disposition and above all the significance it has for its people and its town, Badalona.

March 30, 1930, six younsters between 16 and 17 years old got together to create an penya (a social group), which was something very common in Catalonia during those years. They named it the "Penya spirit of Badalona", emulating the Spirit of Saint Louis, the airplane Charles Lingberg crossed the Atlantic nonstop in.
Their first activities where bicycle excursions and soccer games. For these activities they had to buy t-shirts, striped green and black, which nowadays are the colors that simbolize the Club, as does the nickname "PENYA" which is always present and known everywhere. Its dedication to training up and coming new players is also well-known.
Soon after, at the end of the 1930's, they included basketball in their activities and since the first game, which they won 6 to 3 to the Penya Ni Cinc, it was easy to see that this sport would firstly be, the nucleus of the activities of the Penya and later the reason to beiof the entity. This added to the goal of the young founders "we want the name of Badalona to be known all around the world" results in the spirit which has moved the entity throughout its history.
The first big sports' success, which has landmarked a before and an after, was the victory in 1948 at the Spain's Cup in Burgos. First they eliminated the FC Barcelona and then won the final against the Real Madrid CF, the two great soccer teams with which there has always been rivalry. We are proud of the strength of an economically modest basketball team against the economic superiority derived from soccer of the others. Since then, many have been the sports and soial successes, although there have been difficult times as well, but the weight of tradition, the force of its fans and the proudness of its colors, green and black, have made it possible to surpass every obstacle.
The first basket team to win the title of "National League", the first basket team to win the European title, the only team in Catalonia who has always played in the maximum category (merit shared with Estudiantes and Real Madrid in Spain). These facts are proof that the Joventut of Badalona is a consolidated entity with its logical ups and downs which is not tied to fashion or external interests, exactly the opposite, the strength of the Team relies on its own resources and on the strong belief in the goals that move them

El Joventut Badalona es un club realmente singular, con una evolución y un crecimiento social y deportivo difícil de entender si no se conocen profundamente sus raíces, su talante y sobre todo lo que significa para su gente y para la ciudad de Badalona.
Fue en el año 1930, el 30 de marzo, que 6 jóvenes de 16 y 17 años se reunieron para fundar a una peña, hecho que se estilaba mucho en la Cataluña de aquellos años. Le pusieron el nombre de "Penya spirit of Badalona" emulando el Spirit of Saint Louis, nombre del avión con el que Charles Lingberg hizo la primera travesía del Atlántico sin escalas.
Sus primeras actividades fueron hacer excursiones en bicicleta y un partido de fútbol, para el que fue necesario comprar las camisetas de juego, que fueron a rayas verdes y negras, colores que se han convertido en uno de los símbolos del Club, como el sobrenombre "PENYA" que se mantiene siempre presente y con el que es conocido en todas partes y la gran dedicación a la tarea de formación de jugadores.
Pronto, sin embargo, a finales de 1930, llegó el baloncesto y desde el primer partido, no ganado por 6 a 3 a la Peña Ni Cinc, ya se vio que este deporte se convertiría, primero en la base de las actividades de la Penya y más adelante en la razón de ser de la entidad, que sumada al objetivo que tenían los jóvenes fundadores "queremos que el nombre de Badalona sea conocido por todo el mundo", da como resultado el espíritu que ha movido la entidad a lo largo de su historia.
El primer gran éxito deportivo, que marcó un antes y un después, fue el triunfo en la Copa de España del año 1948 en Burgos, eliminando primero al F C Barcelona y derrotando en la final al Real Madrid C F. Los dos grandes clubes de fútbol con los que siempre se ha mantenido una gran rivalidad, oponiendo el orgullo de ser sólo un club de baloncesto al superior poder económico derivado del fútbol.
Desde entonces han sido muchos los éxitos deportivos y sociales, a pesar de que también se han vivido momentos difíciles, pero el peso de la tradición, la fuerza de la afición y el orgullo de los colores verde y negros siempre los han conseguido superar.
El primer club de baloncesto en ganar un título de "Liga Nacional", el primer club de baloncesto al ganar un título europeo, el único club de Cataluña que ha jugado siempre en la máxima categoría (mérito compartido con Estudiantes y Real Madrid en toda España).
Estos hechos son muestras de que el Joventut Badalona es una entidad consolidada, con los lógicos altibajos, pero que no está sujeto a las modas o a los intereses externos, al contrario, la fuerza del Club se basa en sus propios recursos y en el claro convencimiento de los objetivos que lo mueven.
